Dinner at L'Osteria del forno

About a month ago some girlfriends of mine and myself headed up for an adventure in North Beach in SF. We parked on top of a parking garage that had a spectacular view at night. We did our share of walking and it was time to eat. With all the cute little restaurants dotting SF, how does one choose a place to satisfy one's craving for Italian food? Megan did her research before heading to North Beach and got some suggestions from a co-worker. We picked L'Osteria del forno located on Columbus Avenue near Green Street. Megan's manager said they have the best focaccia bread and pizza.

Megan and I ordered a slice of margherita pizza to share as an appetizer. With the delicate crust, the sweet tomato sauce made for a nice contrast with the bubbly, salty cheese which made for an awesome starter. It wasn't overly cheesy (not that that is a bad thing) which gave the pizza a nice ratio of crust to cheese to sauce. The batteries on my camera were almost dead so I took pictures of the food with my cell phone. Hence the poor quality. We started eating from the crust end. That is why the crust is missing. I forgot to take a picture when we got the food because we were so eager to dig in! Upon ordering, we told the waitress we would be sharing the piece of pizza and she had it cut into bite-size pieces for us.

I ordered carpaccio di salmone. The thinly sliced raw salmon fillet, olive oil, lemon juice, sweet peppers with fresh ground pepper was amazing. Fresh and delicious and leaving me wanting more.

Erika ordered insalata di pomodori.

This is the only night shot I took that turned out.

Overall it was a fantastic day. I wouldn't say I love San Francisco, but I have a deeper appreciation for it now. If nothing else, the city does have good food. :)
